Metal Detectors Q&A
Q: Why are you implementing metal detectors?
A: Your safety and security are our top priorities. The installation of metal detectors is a proactive measure to create a secure and welcoming environment for all guests and team members. This aligns with industry best practices in hospitality and gaming and similar to the process you may already be familiar with at large scale entertainment facilities like Scotiabank Arena and Rogers Centre, as well as to enter our theatres at Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto and Pickering Casino Resort.
Q: Are the metal detectors at every entrance? Or only when entering the casino?
A: Metal detectors have been installed at the public entrances to the gaming floors at Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto and Pickering Casino Resort, similar to what currently exists to enter the theatres at both properties.
Q: What should I expect during the screening process?
A: When entering the property, you’ll walk through the metal detector. If an alarm is triggered, our trained security team will conduct a quick secondary screening using a handheld scanner or other non-invasive measures.
Q: Are the metal detectors invasive?
A: The metal detectors are non-invasive and designed solely to detect prohibited items. Our security team is trained to perform screenings with the utmost respect for your privacy. Metal detectors do not store any data, and any additional screening is conducted professionally and discreetly.
Q: Can I bring in personal items such as an umbrella, or a handbag?
A: Yes, personal items such as umbrellas and handbags are permitted, but they will be subject to screening.
Q: Are there any exemptions from the screening process? What happens if I refuse to go through the metal detectors?
A: For safety and consistency, all guests are required to go through a screening process. While the Open Gate system is compliant with all applicable regulations and safe for those who have medical devices, we are committed to ensuring that all guests, including those with disabilities, have a safe, comfortable, and inclusive experience. Security team members are trained to provide assistance and ensure the screening process is smooth and respectful. If a guest cannot pass through the metal detector due to a mobility device, medical implant, or other reason, our trained security staff will provide the option of a hand-held device or visual screening, both of which are non-touch and do not require the removal of any clothing other than outwear, such as jackets and coats.
Q: What happens if someone is caught with a prohibited item?
A: If a prohibited item is detected, our highly trained security team follows established protocols swiftly and professionally. The safety of our guests and staff is always our top priority. If you ever feel unsafe or notice suspicious activity, please inform a team member immediately.
Q: Who do I talk to if I have If I have additional questions?
A: Please feel free to contact our Guest Services team at any time. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.
