A Message from our CHRO, Anne Berend:
This Saturday, March 8th is International Women’s Day. The theme “Accelerate Action” really resonates with me because the work of gender equality often feels like it can’t come quickly enough. And then I am reminded that equality takes consistent and collective effort. It takes all of us working together to ensure that gender equality exists and can thrive in our boardrooms, schools, media, personal lives and of course, the world of work.
International Women’s Day officially began in 1911 and in the over one hundred years of its existence there have been major advancements in discrimination awareness and gender parity. Today we celebrate the achievements of women while also recognizing that the work isn’t over and we have so much further to go.
Gender equality is not just a vision, it is a call to action. Here are some ways that we can be a part of the change:
- Be aware of our own gender bias.
- Actively listen to diverse perspectives.
- Amplify women’s voices and make sure that they are heard.
- Celebrate women’s achievements.
- Encourage women to go for it.
- Mentor and sponsor other women.
We will commemorate the day with a virtual International Women’s Day celebration and we also have our Women’s Excellence Resource Group occurring throughout the year which is open to all our team members.
Great Canadian Entertainment will be making a $5,000 PROUD donation to Canadian Women’s Foundation. The charity focuses on the critical challenges facing diverse women, girls, two spirit, trans, and non-binary people across Canada.
I wish you all a happy International Women’s Day and look forward to celebrating with you.
Sincerely,
Anne Berend
