Great Canadian team members encouraged to wear orange ribbons to support and acknowledge the Canadian statutory holiday, and company to make donations to four Indigenous charities
September 30, 2022 (Toronto, ON) – Great Canadian Entertainment (“Great Canadian” or “the Company”) will be commemorating National Day for Truth and Reconciliation by honouring the children who never returned home and the Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities.
Today, over 7,000 Great Canadian team members at its 25 destinations in British Columbia, Ontario, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick are encouraged to wear orange ribbons to demonstrate to its guests, and anyone who enters their facilities, an affirmation of The Company’s responsibility to build stronger relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people.
The Company will also be making donations to four Indigenous charities to support significant education and support programs, helping Indigenous communities. The following charities will each be recipients of a $5,000 donation from Great Canadian Entertainment:
- Indian Residential School Survivors Society
- Legacy of Hope Foundation
- Woodland Cultural Centre
- Ulnooweg Indigenous Communities Foundation
“The Legacy of Hope Foundation is so grateful for the generous support from Canadian businesses such as Great Canadian Entertainment,” quoted Teresa Edwards, Executive Director at the Legacy of Hope Foundation. “These funds will go to supporting projects for Survivors and intergenerational Survivors to access Cultural Reclamation Workshops, which help significantly in supporting healing and will help to foster Reconciliation in Canada. By working together, we can change the world and create a brighter future for all Canadians!”
Through the assistance of the four organizations, Great Canadian is using this time to encourage all of its team members to engage in meaningful reflection on Canada’s history – particularly pertaining to the history and legacy of residential schools. The four above-mentioned organizations have all shared educational resources so that team members can be better educated on the subject matter.
