The Motorleague & The Monoxides Holiday Bash
Moncton mainstay rock bands to co-headline Christmas show
The Monoxides and The Motorleague perform at Casino New Brunswick. A portion of the proceeds go to Peter McKee Community Food Centre.
The Motorleague were formed in 2006 by Don Levandier and Nathan Jones, with the help of founding Monoxides member PJ Dunphy. “We grew up idolising The Monoxides. They really smashed a glass ceiling and showed us what bands from Moncton were capable of,” says Levandier on hearing The Monoxides on the radio and television, “We definitely wouldn’t have had the wherewithal to do half the touring we did if they hadn’t paved that road for us first. They were NB’s first real road warriors.”
The Motorleague are currently finishing a follow up recording to 2016’s award-winning Holding Patterns. Their most recent string of single releases have garnered over 2 million spins on Spotify.
The Monoxides also formed in Moncton, in 1988, and spent the bulk of their career touring North America, supporting acts like Our Lady Peace, ZZ Top, and The Headstones. The Monoxides’ latest single, 2023’s “Let Her Know,” received national radio features and marked the band’s first new release since 2000’s The Free Release Of Energy. The group is looking to release more new music in the lead-up to the show this December. “We have nothing but love and huge respect for the fellas in The Motorleague,” says The Monoxides vocalist-guitarist Steve Hickox. “They have more than capably carried the rock torch high for New Brunswick these last 18 years. We’re hoping this show will be the first of many stages we can conquer together.”
A portion of ticket sales will go directly to The Peter McKee Community Food Centre, on St. George Street in Moncton, NB. “It’s a tough time of year and the work the Community Food Centre does alleviates some of the struggle,” says organiser and musician Nathan Jones. “Whether it’s from the school lunch programs, Christmas boxes or regular drop ins.”
