Shaggy
Shaggy, born Orville Richard Burrell in Kingston, Jamaica, emerged as a major force in the dancehall scene after moving to Brooklyn in his teens. Following four years in the U.S. Marines, he launched his music career with the global hit “Oh Carolina,” paving the way for a record-breaking journey as the only diamond-selling dancehall artist in history. With over 40 million album units sold, multiple Billboard chart appearances, and top streaming ranks alongside Bob Marley and Sean Paul, Shaggy has solidified his place in reggae and pop music. His Grammy-winning collaboration with Sting on 44/876 and subsequent releases, including Wah Gwaan?! and Hot Shot 2020, showcase his versatility and enduring appeal.
Beyond music, Shaggy has made a cultural impact through viral hits like “Banana” and high-profile appearances, including a Super Bowl commercial with Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher. His influence extends to production, notably co-writing and executive producing Spice’s Grammy-nominated album TEN. Most recently, his project Com Fly Wid Mi, produced by Sting, reimagines Frank Sinatra classics in reggae style and earned yet another Grammy nod. A philanthropist at heart, Shaggy founded the Shaggy Make a Difference Foundation, which has raised millions for Kingston’s Bustamante Children’s Hospital, cementing his legacy as both an artist and humanitarian.
