Great Canadian Entertainment is pleased to introduce RISE, our new brand for all our Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) initiatives. To rise is to continue going in an upward movement. It is an elevation from a starting point.
At Great Canadian Entertainment, our aim is to go higher, to learn and challenge ourselves, so that we can continue to build an environment where our team members and guests feel supported, respected, and valued. Our goal is to make Great Canadian Entertainment inclusive and accessible to all.
As part of our DEIB journey, we have introduced RISE initiatives at our 25 destinations and corporate office. These programs are vital to the continued evolution of our culture and are representative of our commitment to inclusivity.
Team Member Resource Groups (TMRG): We have five TMRGs open to all our team members. The purpose of our TMRGs is to bring together team members with shared experiences by creating a safe and open forum, to meet and support one another. Our TMRGs are:
- EnAble is a group created to empower team members with visible and invisible disabilities.
- Black and Indigenous Excellence empowers Black and Indigenous team members to achieve professional and personal growth.
- Women’s Resource Group uplifts women identifying team members to excel in their professional and personal development.
- PRIDE Resource Group seeks to build an inclusive culture where 2SLGBTQIA+ team members are empowered and enabled to bring their authentic selves to work.
- Mosaic is a resource group for team members where different cultures and experiences are celebrated and supported.
Fireside Chats: Our Fireside Chats were launched last March as a way for our team members to listen, learn and engage with women leaders at Great Canadian Entertainment, in the casino industry, and beyond. Most recently we had our Chief Financial Officer, Pauline Alimchandani, speak with us about how she carved a career in finance, capital markets, and financial reporting.
Cultural Days and Months of Significance: Our rich diversity is one of Great Canadian Entertainment’s greatest strengths. We celebrate our diverse workforce and guests by sending out newsletters to spotlight cultural days and months of significance. The newsletters include facts and resources to learn more about the days and months of significance.
Subject Matter Experts: We invite speakers in to speak to our team members on days such as National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, Black History Month, International Women’s Day, and Pride Month.
Team Member Training: We value the importance of learning as we continue with our commitment to equity and inclusion. Our DEIB training is assigned to all team members and is renewed on an annual basis. Our training includes Diversity and Inclusion in the Workplace, Unconscious Bias in the Workplace, and Your Responsibility in Creating a Trans-Inclusive Workplace. Our leaders are assigned The Importance of Inclusive Leadership in the Workplace training. We have a firm commitment from our leaders across the business to recognize and understand unconscious bias.
Talent Acquisition: To ensure that everyone feels welcomed to apply for roles at Great Canadian Entertainment, we have eliminated gender bias language in our job descriptions. We have partnered with various organizations such as WORTH, working to bring hospitality opportunities to women, and Indigenous Works, a dedicated job board that connects Indigenous job seekers to opportunities, to continue to build our diverse pipeline of talent. We are excited for our upcoming RISE initiatives and look forward to achieving our goal of continuing to build a diverse, inclusive, and equitable culture where all our team members can rise.
