Great Canadian Awards 2024 PROUD Scholarships
The end of summer is nearing close. Back-to-school sales are in full force as students and families prepare to start a new school year. For Great Canadian, August is an exciting month for its community support program, PROUD, as it gets to award the recipients of its PROUD Scholarship program.
Each year, ten community-minded team members (or dependents of active team members) in post-secondary education are awarded a $1,500 scholarship to support their studies. PROUD Scholarship recipients, selected by a voting committee, are special individuals who are planting themselves in their community and making a positive impact largely through volunteering.
The 2024 PROUD Scholarship recipients’ class is a tremendous group of individuals who have collectively volunteered over 4,600 hours in their community, all while balancing time as a student.
This year’s recipients includes youth sport coaches, scout leaders, and volunteers at local food banks, animal shelters and children’s hospitals. It also includes class valedictorians and winners of prestigious community awards such as Ontario’s Lieutenant Governor Community Award and the Ontario Volunteer Service Awards.
“Speaking on behalf of all Great Canadians across the country, we are extremely proud of this year’s extraordinary group of PROUD Scholarship recipients, and we’re looking forward to supporting their educational pursuits with these $1,500 scholarships,” said Chuck Keeling, Great Canadian’s Executive Vice President of Stakeholder Engagement, Community and Social Responsibility. “The level of community pride and humanitarianism these individuals possess is a shining example for all Great Canadian team members and the entire community. The achievements they’ve made in their community is a great example of the positive impact our 25 properties across Canada have made in our local communities,” concluded Keeling.
